The first one makes me think of a paint/brush -style webcomic I used to have bookmarked. Can’t find the name now, unfortunately; and if I remember right, the last time I found it, it was an old archive that the author had forgetten to pull down (her site said she was planning to redo it sometime later). Regardless, have you tried brushes?
