I thought that with Page 1 of the comic, I should throw out a little explanation.
This comic is all about the wartime experiences of Futaro Yamada, one of Japan’s most important novelists of the 20th century, probably most famous in the west for the story “The Kouga Ninja Scrolls”, which has been adapted many times, most recently as the manga/anime “Basilisk”.
This story was the comic that really give Kei her first break as a professional manga author.
Futaro Yamada wrote a detective story called “Unko Satsujin” – “Death by Poo” – and this is a reference to it (though there seems to be nothing written about the story in English)
